Dr Shane Fernando
Radiologist & Nuclear Medicine Specialist


Dr Shane grew up in a small country town in the NSW Central Western Plains before travelling to Tamworth for High School. Here, he excelled academically and in leadership, captaining the School in Year 12 as well as the school Cricket and Football teams for many years. Shane made the move to Newcastle at the cessation of school to commence his Bachelor of Medicine, training through the University of Newcastle and John Hunter Hospital. In 2011, Shane completed his Radiology training and went on to obtain a sub-specialty interest in Interventional Radiology. He continued his study beyond Radiology, completing a second Medical Specialty in Nuclear Medicine and is now one of the few Dual Trained Radiology – Nuclear Medicine Fellows in Australia.

Shane is a proud Indigenous Australian and is the first and only Indigenous Radiologist and Nuclear Medicine Specialist.

Shane has lived in the local Lake Macquarie area for most of his adult life, raising his 3 children here and is proud to call this community home. Coming from a small country town, Shane is passionate about the importance of community and providing access to affordable and quality healthcare for all. As the Managing Director of In Focus Radiology, Shane strives to ensure the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie has access to Bulk-Billed* Radiology services including a range of interventional procedures, which are his specialty. Shane’s vision in the future is to expand upon the services offered by In Focus to include a Nuclear Medicine and MRI service.

Dr Chris Moeskops

B.Dent, B.Med, FRANZCR

Dr Chris is a locally based Radiologist with a special interest Head and Neck Radiology as well as Pain Management

Originally from Sydney, Chris started his career with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Sydney. He took his newly acquired skills to Darwin where he worked within remote Aboriginal Communities, bringing much needed dental services to those areas. After a little more working travel within Australia, Chris took his skills abroad to the UK where he completed a year of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery training. Chris returned to Australia after obtaining a sought-after position on the OMFS training program at JHH. Chris’ drive did not stop there, as he simultaneously undertook his Medical Bachelor Degree at The University of Newcastle. Once his Degree was complete, Chris decided he was interested in a more diverse field of Medicine which could utilise his comprehensive medical knowledge, and hence he switched to the Radiology Training Program at JHH which he completed in mid 2017.

After many years of moving, study and training, Chris is pleased to called Newcastle his home, where he can raise his two beautiful young children. Chris has built on his extensive Dental and Oral Maxillofacial Surgical experience, and developed a unique sub-speciality interest these this area of Radiology.

In addition to his technical skills, Chris is an extremely approachable Radiologist with a strong passion for community Medicine. His desire is to develop and maintain a strong collaborative approach to an individual’s healthcare diagnosis and treatment plan. Chris believes in this way Radiologists, patients and referrers alike, feel respected and included in the entire health care journey for the long-term benefit of each and every patient.
